Here’s a snippet from my current WIP, The Condemned. It’s part of my unedited first draft
The soldier riding furthest in the front, another sergeant of the City Guard, swivelled in his saddle. “We will cross here, then ride for a couple more hours before making camp!” He walked his horse out on the bridge, and everyone followed without pause.
Iselyn swallowed, pulling her cloak tighter around her, in need of its comforting heat. The wood creaked dangerously below her, and her horse whipped its head back. She hushed, trying to calm the beast, but it only snorted, its hooves clattering against the dark bridge.
About to rein her horse in, Iselyn suddenly felt the ground shaking underneath them. The bridge sank several inches, then a roar of thunder boomed around her as the whole structure crumbled under the weight of the many riders.
People and horses alike plummeted into the Moraker Rapids, and Iselyn screamed as she disappeared amongst the gushing water.
