πŸ“š My rating: βββββ

A Threat of Shadows is the first book of The Keeper Chronicles. Right from the start, we encounter Alaric, a Keeper (or ex-Keeper, as he seems to view himself). He is a man with many regrets, and the ghosts of his past haunt him (quite literally at the start). But he is on a mission to find a way to save his wife after she was afflicted by a deadly venom, and that quest is all that matters. On his journey, he happens upon a mixed group of people – a dwarf, an elf, a blacksmith, and a wizard, to mention a few. He joins them seemingly on a whim, but soon things are revealed that make you think this wasn’t as much of a coincidence as one might have thought.

A Threat of Shadows is a fantastic tale with plenty of twists, an intriguing magic system, and fabulously fleshed-out characters. I absolutely adored Alaric and his reasons to be on this quest, but also the doubt that always plays on his mind. Then the other characters, their fun banter and witty comments, and how they are all distinct and beautifully portrayed. I loved the mystery behind it all, the added court intrigue and how the different parts of the story finally come together in the end. Fabulous!

I highly recommend this book to any fantasy lovers out there!

Note: I listened to the audiobook version, narrated by Tim Gerard Reynolds. I enjoyed his narration, with the different voices and the emotions he brought to the table. I’ll admit, he read the book a tad slow for my taste, but that’s not something that can’t be fixed by a little increased reading speed on the Audible app. So, A Threat of Shadows is a superb audiobook!
