1. Hi! Welcome to my humble blog of all things bookish! I would like for us to start by getting to know you. Give us a short bio, please!

A Little Glimpse Into Me đŸ€Ș

Author: The Ridiculous Adventures of Serbinand

Ambassador: RethinkFIT

Coach & Mentor

I currently live in the Muskoka Lakes region of Ontario, Canada together with my wife Mindy Blackstien and our newly adopted cat, Oracle Spirit Spirit, or “Aura” for short.

My first passion is writing and I began The Ridiculous Adventures of Serbinand in my teens after being inspired by the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Fawlty Towers and Monty Python.

My second passion is to make a difference in the world. In 1990, I took the initiative to start Canada’s first environmental magazine, Recover. Its tagline was Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Recover.

In 1997, Mindy and I embarked on a journey to help pioneer the natural bodybuilding and fitness model movements. We produced the World Natural Sports Organization (WNSO) & the FAME World Tour, hosting hundreds of events globally, producing top rated television shows, publishing magazines and providing pathways and platforms for wellness enthusiasts around the world to transform into their own visual superhero. By 2008, Mindy and I conceptualized the bodyproud term to convey that beyond strength and appearance, to truly be one’s own superhero you must take action to uplevel your personal mental, emotional, functional and spiritual wellness too.

Ever since 2008 I have mentored under experts in all areas of business, empowerment, nutrition, wellness and mental health — I was even ordained as a Metaphysical Minister — and developed a gamified initiative to Rethink FIT where people have the ability to access coaching, attend workshops, host retreats, and participate in social media challenges to love better how they think, feel, act, look, function and dream.

Today I enjoy writing, nature, spending time with Mindy and our new cat, giving talks about Serbinand and inspiring the creative process in others.  I am still also active as an Ambassador for the RethinkFIT initiative and also coach and mentor.

2. To get to know you just a little bit better, I’d like to ask you some this or that questions. Answer 5 of these and explain why you chose this or that, or maybe an entirely different alternative!

Winter, spring, summer or autumn?
You’ve Got a Friend – James Taylor
funny to see this here. My wife and I have been talking for years about singing, just for fun and to each other
we just got one of the singing apps and each chose a song to practice and record. We are sharing the recording with each other today and my song is You’ve Got a Friend, with the chorus being “winter, spring, summer or fall (sorry, changed the autumn lol) all you have to do is call
 and I’ll be there
 you’ve got a friend Â đŸŽ¶Â

Cat or dog?
I have always been a dog fan, well I’ve had dogs all my life and in fact we had 3 all at the same time. Once they left us we didn’t have any pets for awhile and over the last year got a cat. Yup, at first I felt like a traitor. Like I did something wrong
and wow, they sure are different than dogs! And fun at the same time
a very different experience. I really like her now and recognize the benefits of cats, well, for one, you get to sleep in instead of heading out for walks at all hours! lol

Tea or coffee?
Coffee. An acquired taste. I guess it is true. I never, never drank coffee. Thought it was gross and no point to it. Well, I am drinking a cup right now as I write this! I started to enjoy coffee, black, a few years ago and now I really enjoy it to kick start the day. In addition to the the thermogenic benefit to the body, it does act as a blast off to the day. So, ya, now I am a coffee drinker,
 what’s next? Scotch? Yukkkk!

Witches or wizards?
Well my wife is for sure leaning towards the witches
the good ones of course, the light witch. Me, well, that would be a wizard. I have been fascinated by wizards all my life, read a lot about the metaphysical and spiritual worlds, watch all the fun movies like the Hobbit, etc and actually got ordained as a Metaphysical Minister by an Oracle, yup an Oracle, several years ago!

Mountains or beaches?
Well mountains are awesome. The scenery, the view, the fun of the climb and the energy of the region. However beaches are incredible as you can just sit, relax and take in the scene. You can cool off in the water, get some exercise and go for a swim, chill out on a boat or raft, or just sit on the beach. So you have the best of both activity and chill out. Mountains provide that too, especially when you get to a lake or river while hiking
just, in most cases, you have to climb back down when you are ready to just have a sandwich and chill out 🙂

3. When you look for books to read, what trope or type of story will always catch your attention?

Sci-Fi, Horror, Fantasy
 o, ya, comedy 🙂

4. What do you write? Tell us about your current projects and the latest happenings!

Well my book provides, an escape from it all with a comedy
well a laugh out loud sci-fi comedy book & audiobook 😉 It’s called The Ridiculous Adventures of Serbinand and it’s a true case of humour, escapism and an anything goes kinda of trip to another world. It’s also about self discovery and growth with a bunch of laugh out loud moments in between. I has a blend of Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, Monty Python, Fawlty Towers, Family Guy and some Star Wars 🙂  It is in paperback, ebook and my favourite, audibook!
5. What is your most recent release? Give us a short presentation, cover, and a link for where to buy it!
“From deltic spagnoids to the Algernon Sector Serbinand and his slightly annoying, yet really super smart ship Godfried careened across the somewhat vast universe intersecting with Jime and Orville in some bizarre galactic space disruption that turned everyone’s world completely upside down, or right side up… ahh… or was it inside out…umm, outside in maybe… or… umm… well… everything changed.
It is available on Audible, Amazon & Kindle: https://www.amazon.com/Ridiculous-Adventures-Serbinand-Jeffrey-Kippel-ebook/dp/B08R2ZKVCQ/
There is a sneak peak of part of the first chapter in both written and audio format on my website: www.serbinand.com

6. What real-life inspiration do you draw from, and what are your primary fictional sources of inspiration (books, authors, films, music, etc.)? Name a few!

There are a few more people that I would like to thank for inspiring me to write this book. Firstly, Douglas Adams through the famous Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy series; it was the hours and hours of laughing out loud reading and re-reading those books that prompted me to start writing.  Secondly, my friends from my younger days, whose stories are embedded throughout the book based on some of the crazy adventures we had together!  Next, to my mother-in-law, for writing her first book at the age of 69, under the pseudonym E.P. Snider, called Why Me? A Memoir and her new children’s book The Magical Adventures of Lori and Bonnie B. Bunny’. Both times she became motivation to get my “butt in gear”! To my friends and family who read the book in various stages over the years, offering suggestions and feedback that may have ended up in the pages throughout the story.

Humanitarian Cause:

Since laughter is one of the best “medicines” I chose to work with the RethinkFIT Initiative. Proceeds from the book sales will go to their humanitarian efforts to spread health, wellness, fitness, empowerment, love and laughter  to those in need around the world.

7. What is your writing routine? If you have one, give us the run-down!

When stuff pops into my head I write it down
I also keep myself active writing and just got a blog started:

8. If you could go back and give yourself one piece of advice as you started out on the path to becoming an author, what would it be?

Dream bigger, faster! Never give up! I had started writing The Ridiculous Adventures of Serbinand in my early teens and came back to it every so often
my advice it to keep going, finish the passion project you started right to the end
the satisfaction of finishing it is awesome
