The Curse of Chalion by Lois McMaster Bujold

My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5 stars

This novel may be a low-key, thoughtful, soul-reaching read, but my goodness, I couldn’t expect it to be so wholly engaging in the subtle – yet beautiful – way it was penned! I am glad I read this!

Fantastic characters, not only Cazaril, a man who has suffered much and only wish for a new life for himself; but also the others, not in the least the spirited Iselle and her entourage! They are all believable and engaging, and you find yourself swallowed up by their world and just praying everything will be alright at the end!
Oh, and I love the theological aspect of this book: The Gods and the religion, the devouts/saints, and the fact you get to see their miracles (and more…) through prayer!

All in all, it is a pleasant read that works as a stand-alone, despite it being part of a series. I truly recommend it!!
