The Curse of Ash and Blood by Lou Wilham
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4 stars
This story was a little different compared to the first book (The Curse of the Black Cat). Not quite as sweet and whimsical, it focuses on the gruff and aloof dragon Blaze and the sweet and loving veterinarian Fable.
I have to admit, I was initially worried this book would be too similar to the first instalment of the series considering the premise and the M/M romance. However! I did not find it so. Instead, I was happy to see the resemblance was just the right amount to give this story its own depth and room for character building.
Speaking of characters, this is where I found myself stumped at times. Throughout the story, Blaze comes across as quite abusive, not in the least towards Fable, and I waited for some sort of turnaround in this. I would have wished for a slightly more softer side to come across for this story to be as sweet and toe-curling as its predecessor. Even Gwydion felt less whimsical than in the first instalment of the series, so although the story in itself is great, it does not quite reach my expectations.
However, all in all, I enjoyed the book and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a short and sweet M/M romance story.
